If there’s one thing I’ve learned from touring homes all around San Francisco, it’s this: starting the day right matters. And for me, that almost always begins with a cup of hot bone broth from Proposition Chicken in Laurel Village.
Before a full day of touring, it’s become a pre-tour ritual — a small but essential stop that sets the tone for hours of walking, talking, and taking in some of the city’s most interesting homes. One sip in, and I’m officially in tour mode.
The Bone Broth I Never Skip
I don’t switch it up.
I don’t experiment.
I don’t browse the menu like a normal person.

It’s always the hot chicken bone broth — slow-simmered, rich, comforting, and exactly what you want on a foggy San Francisco morning (which, let’s be honest, is most mornings). It’s warm, simple, and somehow makes a long day of touring feel more grounded and energized.
If you ever spot me walking down California Street with a steaming cup in hand, you already know where I’ve been — and that the day is just getting started.
A Quick Word on the Menu
Even though I stay loyal to the bone broth, Proposition Chicken does have a full menu that locals love — fried, flipped, or tofu options, plus sandwiches, salads, and entrées.
But for me?
Bone broth.
Every time.
Non-negotiable.

The Space: Laurel Village, Done Right
The Laurel Village location has that effortless neighborhood charm. Bright inside, calm outside, and always buzzing in that very San Francisco way.
It also happens to sit right along my usual Presidio Heights loop, which makes it the perfect first stop before heading out — or before popping into nearby shops like Emily Joubert Home & Garden. Pro tip: you can walk from Proposition Chicken to Emily Joubert in under two minutes. Yes, really.
My Pre-Open-House Loop
A typical day usually looks something like this:

Say hi to Roland — always warm, welcoming, and one of my favorite people in the neighborhood.

Why This Stop Matters to Me
The bone broth is consistently excellent.
It’s quick, comforting, and easy before a long day.
The location couldn’t be better.
It’s become part of my rhythm — a simple ritual that sets the tone.

If you ever find yourself joining me on a Tour, there’s a good chance you’ll find me here first. This is where my day usually begins.
